RECYCLABLE AND RECYCLED ALUMINUM: A CHALLENGE TO BE TAKEN UP
Respect for the environment, attention to planet Earth, protection of nature: no one is exempt. The world is changing orientation, logic and perspectives. End consumers are looking to purchase products with low environmental impact and manufacturing industries are looking for sustainable materials that generate a circular economy.
Aluminum is the focus of attention in many industrial sectors for its characteristics of lightness, resistance, inalterability, but above all because it is 100% recyclable for an infinite number of times and can be re-used after recycling.
WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT RECYCLED ALUMINUM?
100% of the quality properties of aluminum are preserved even after recycling
75% of aluminum produced since the beginning of its industrial life is still in circulation
In Europe 50% of circulating aluminum is produced from recycled material
95% is the energy saving in the production of recycled aluminum compared to primary aluminum
The recycling process starts in our homes with the separate collection of rubbish; after a careful separation from any other material, it proceeds in a phase of pre-melting for the elimination of possible surface treatments. Subsequently , the real melting allows to obtain liquid aluminum, added with the elements that characterize the different alloys.
Recycled aluminum is already used in beverage cans, in the building industry as well as in the automotive sector. With the exception of cans, construction and automotive products have a very long average lifespan. These products become long-term aluminum containers, absorbing much of the availability of recycled metal.
WHAT IS THE GLOBAL CHALLENGE?
Raise consumers’ awareness of more effective waste separation and develop eco-designed articles to increase the amount of recyclable metal available on the market.
Luxury packaging has now re-evaluated its indicators by choosing green materials that guarantee excellence in design and respect to the environment.
Inca has taken up the challenge by focusing its research in the development of a sustainable packaging with the use of recycled alloys, through energy-saving processes and putting the emphasis on eco-design.
INCA Re-AL is the new packaging conception, made of 100% recycled aluminum, that will be presented to Designers at the Packaging Première Collection 2021
